Chief Instructor Santiago Bio
I started learning martial arts when I was about 7 years old. I started practicing Tae Kwon Do under a family friend and then a local instructor on the Upper West Side, known to many as “Spanish Harlem” in Manhattan, New York.
At age 12, I was already learning Boxing, Judo, and Kung Fu. Between age 14 - 16 was involved in many street and park altercations. Joined the Army in the 1980s jand quickly had to sharpen my skills even more as I encountered challenges and fights throughout my military career.
As I moved place to place, I was inspired and influenced by the philosophy and training methods of many arts such as Tae Known Do, Karate, Boxing, JKD, Wing Chun, Muay Thai, and other Kung Fu systems. While traveling with diverse groups of people in different arts, under or with multiple instructors from various systems. Throughout this time, I developed an appreciation and understanding not to put one system or one instructor above another.
I am an Iraq war veteran of Desert Storm/Desert Shield. During my time in service, I trained fellow soldiers, civilians, DOD personnel, Costa Rican Civil Defense, and other special groups in Self Defense tactics and maneuvers.
In 2005, with collaboration of some of my students, we started the first Mixed Martial Arts School in Columbus, GA. We had many students compete in Amateur fights in the state of Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee until 2013.
My primary goal is to share my knowledge and experience with others to help them along their individual journey of martial arts. I believe it is imperative to assist other martial arts practitioners or like minded people who have an affinity for the arts in finding their own ways of “Self Expression.”
